THE KOP

Liverpool. The football. The city.
Independent & unofficial.

City & photography · The Kop editorial · 22 October 2026

The city comes with it.

Anfield, the Liver Building, the streets between. There is more than one way to picture belonging.

A photograph of a football ground and a photograph of the waterfront can tell different parts of the same story. One fixes the place where you gather. The other might be the view that tells you you are home.

The Royal Liver Building opened in 1911 as the headquarters of the Royal Liver group. Its towers and birds became part of the city’s everyday visual language. The building’s own visitor history is a useful starting point for looking past the familiar outline.

Look for the ordinary detail.

For our photography, the interesting question is what happens around a landmark. A figure crossing the pavement. Rain flattening the distance. A familiar building partly hidden by the things in front of it. The place does not have to be empty to be worth looking at.

We will make room for Anfield photographs alongside the Liver Building, the Town Hall and street scenes. Each image should stand on its own, while a pair might say something more about the city.

Keep the connection personal.

Which Liverpool view belongs beside your football photograph? Share the place and the reason. The best answer might be a street nobody puts on a postcard.
